Finance Giants are all-in on Stablecoins, but is the Unbanked Population Being Forgotten?

Mainstream adoption of crypto payments is here, and stablecoins are at the forefront. In September 2026, Visa announced it processed more than $20 billion annualized in stablecoin settlement volume. Across the spectrum of the financial world, giants are racing to build stablecoin infrastructure, with names like JPMorgan and Mastercard also announcing major moves just last week.

However, while banks and financial institutions are processing more stablecoin volume than ever before, the existing narrative around stablecoin payments risks overlooking the people that stand to benefit from this technology the most— the unbanked.

Everyone is building for the top of the pyramid: the banks, businesses, and the ‘already-banked’ consumers. But is this institutional infrastructure reaching those that stand to benefit those who need it most?

60-70% of Southeast Asian and African consumers remain unbanked or underbanked, with inadequate access to traditional bank accounts, digital payments, and dollar exposure. Globally, more than 1.4 billion people remain unbanked today, with over half of that population concentrated in just eight underdeveloped countries.

For many in these communities, a stablecoin wallet/card application may be the most versatile financial tool they’ve ever had. This includes those struggling to get traditional banking access because of geography or economic circumstance, those working overseas and waiting too long for remittances to reach home, or citizens living in high-inflation economies challenged by eroding local currencies.

RedotPay was built for everyone, regardless of status, income, or location. We believe everyone should have access to financial services, not just those with easier exposure to advanced financial tools.

Because of our global user base, our customers have unique use cases. A domestic worker in Canada can use RedotPay’s Send feature to transfer their salary back to family in the Philippines, with low fees and faster processing times. A blue-collar worker in Argentina who is tired of high inflation hurting his purchasing power can use our multi-currency wallet to deposit ARS (Argentine Peso), convert it to USDT, and enjoy the relative stability of the dollar while still being able to spend on daily purchases. A student in sub-Saharan Africa with limited proximity to banks can sign up for a RedotPay card to purchase AI subscriptions online.

It’s these use cases that RedotPay was built for. While the current news cycle on institutional adoption is a positive one, we believe the industry’s maturation is far from complete. We hope to continue reaching the 1.4 billion the system never reached, while giving them a reliable and trustworthy payments infrastructure.
